GV Rockies Trip May 2012

Victoria Day long weekend arrived with spring in hand at last, and the Rocky Mountains were calling us...

Towering evergreen forests, majestic mountains, giant blue-green frozen lakes, rushing waterfalls, big horned sheep, elk, white-tailed deer, bears, glaciers and the amazing beauty surrounded us for four magical days!

Swimming in the icy waters of Lake Louise!

Students hiking the trail to Johnston Canyon Waterfall.

Our group picture at Bow Lake.... turned into a snowball fight!

Taking the Snocoach up onto the Athabasca Glacier

At the base of  Mt. Robson - the tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies!

So long Rocky Mountains! We'll be back soon...

Final GV Ski Weekend for 2011-2012 Season!

This weekend, over 100 Global Village students (that's right - two full buses of fun!) will be heading up to Whistler for the Telus Ski and Snowboard Festival marking the end of the ski season. There will be a number of cool events happening to coincide with the festival, including free outdoor concerts, pro-level ski/snowboarding shows, bar parties, and giveaway contests!

It will be the last chance to ski or snowboard with the school during the 2011-2012 ski season, and many students are excited by the idea of being able to ski this month and head to the beach next month!

Check out the video below to see some of the festivities from last year's Whistler Ski and Snowboard Festival:

Halloween Boat Cruise Party!

Every year, Global Village students have the opportunity to go to the best Halloween boat cruise party in the city...The GV Halloween Party Cruise this year did not disappoint!

Out of 191 students and staff on board, there were over 185 in costume... We held a costume contest, but there were so many good ones that we couldn't decide on a winner! There were....

Cowboys and Ninjas...

Zombies and mad scientists...

 Gangsters, surgeons and bumblebees...
A kissing booth...

Good and Evil were friends! Witches and angels, convicts and ladybugs...

Cheerleaders and cavewomen...

Even a street urchin and a frog!

Some traditional vampies and witches...

Even the teachers and staff dressed up!

After the boat cruise... the party continued to Granville Street...

A video of great memories..

A former Global Village Vancouver student recently made and posted this wonderful video on YouTube to share photos and videos of the wonderful memories he made while he was in Vancouver in 2010 and 2011.

I asked him if I could share it on our blog, since it really captures the spirit of how many of our students spend their time here outside of school hours - they are out meeting people from many cultures, trying new things, experiencing the world in ways that they could only dream about when they were back home...

Nicolas Pimentel, the student who made this video, also posted it on our Facebook Group, with this message:
"I left vancouver 5 months ago and it has been very hard, i wish i could go to vancouver again, I miss all my friends, i miss vancouver i miss global village!!!!"

The YouTube link is below, for those of you who wish to share this video.
