Global Village May 2011 Rocky Mountains Trip!!

From May 20th to May 23rd 2011, over one hundred Global Village students took a roadtrip they will never forget - from the City of Vancouver on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, to some of the highest peaks in North America.

It was a magical journey... land rose up from the sea, curving and rolling, flattening and rising... rising... rising... until WOW! That mountain is more than 3 kilometres high! Driving through dense forests, bejewelled with glittering green alpine lakes, studded with glistening white and blue glaciers and sunny skies to top it all!

Welcome to THE CANADIAN ROCKIES!

We had lots of fun on the buses - singing, playing silly games, making new friends and telling bear stories...
Wait! What's that outside the window?

Our first BEAR!  We saw FOUR black bears on this trip...

We stopped to take some pictures in front of Mount Robson:
the highest mountain in the Rockies.

Then we saw a GRIZZLY BEAR!

We kept driving, towards the massive Columbia Icefields...
if that doesn't look big to you, just remember...
that's only the corner of the glacier!

We took a trip up on to the glacier in one of these crazy looking vehicles... But we're crazy too...

The Glacier was SO bright!

And we kept falling in the snow!

We also stopped at beautiful mountain lakes along the way...

Some of them still had ice from the winter!
But what gorgeous reflections. So calm.

On Sunday in Banff, we took a ride up the famous Banff Gondola.

And met cute chipmunks at the top!

What a beautiful place...
Can't wait to see it again in September 2011!
